Through one-to-one mentoring relationships, children learn valuable life skills and increase confidence in themselves. They make better decisions about their lives and avoid negatives such as gang activity and illegal substance use.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee needs 75 mentors in 75 days so that we can better serve the children in our community. Help us improve their lives for the better.

Being a mentor ensures that a child will receive the skills necessary to reach his or her full potential. Mentors provide support and encouragement. A caring adult friend serves as a great role model for a disadvantaged child.

Research has shown that children with a Big Brother or Sister are:

• 57% less likely to skip school
• 46% less likely to begin using illegal substances
• 33% less likely to hit someone

Children with mentors are more confident in school and make better decisions about their lives.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships. Our vision is that all children achieve success.

In order to better serve the children in our community, we need more mentors. Help us reach our goal of recruiting 75 mentors in 75 days.

With your support, we can improve our community one child at a time, and we can change the lives of local children for the better, forever.

Proceeds from each pint sold will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee. Happy hour begins at 4:00pm and the cask will be tapped at 6:00pm. Come support us and let’s enjoy this cask together! The Woodruff Brewing Company will be making a Coffee Porter for the event.

Knoxville City Mayor Madeline Rogero declared January National Mentoring Month in Knoxville in a ceremony on January 11 in the Mayor’s office. National Mentoring Month is set aside to honor and say thank you to all of the volunteers, staff and community partners who take time out of their schedules to mentor and provide support through Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee.

This January, as part of National Mentoring Month, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee will host several local events to attract and recruit more mentors. Big Brothers Big Sisters is encouraging all members of the community, including the local media, to participate in National Mentoring Month. Currently, there are more than 100 children waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Sister.

“National Mentoring Month is a time to pay tribute to the Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteers, families, staff and donors and to encourage others to start something to extend our reach,” said CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee, Myra Yeatman.

She added, “We  hold ourselves accountable for the proven youth outcomes that are unique to Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs, including academic achievement, avoidance of risky and delinquent behaviors and higher self esteem and aspirations.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters’ African American Fraternity Partners have launched MentoringBrothers.org, powered by Big Brothers Big Sisters with support from popular nationally syndicated Urban Radio host Michael Baisden, who challenges other radio hosts, celebrities, corporations and influencers to step up.

The unique website and social media effort will enable African American men to be the impetus for dramatically changing the odds for African American boys across the nation. Initially developed by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America as an African American male mentor recruiting tool, the revamped MentoringBrothers.org will serve as the nation’s central source for in-depth, interactive mentoring resources.

The redesigned website is part of Mentoring Brothers in Action, Phase II of Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi and Omega Psi Phi’s two-year collaborative partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
